BUNNY LINES

Bunny lines are the lines we get on the sides of the bridge of our nose when we scrunch up the face, or smile, and this can give the appearance of a false sense of distaste. Bunny lines are caused by contraction of the nasalis muscle, and can be softened with botox injections.

CHIN BOTOX

some people have strong chin muscles, resulting in a dimpled chin. Also, as one ages, the muscle of the chin contracts, resulting in a 'dimpled, orange peel chin' over time. Chin botox relaxes this muscle, resulting in a smoother, more contoured appearance.

DOWNTURNED MOUTH

Although a 'downturned mouth' is often caused by volume loss and  therefore most commonly treated with dermal fillers, it can be caused by a strong muscle at the corners of the mouth, the depressor anguli oris (DAO). Botox injections into this muscle will raise the corners of the mouth into a more neutral position, but will not 'turn up' the corners of the mouth as dermal filler can. Botox in this area can also be used at the same time as marionette lines treatment

GUMMY SMILE

When some people smile, they may feel they show too much of gums– often described as a ‘gummy smile’. This is often caused by a hyperactive muscle and is very quickly, simply, and effectively corrected by botox. Some people get confused with the difference between a gummy smile, and a lip flip - you can read the difference in our blog post by clicking here

Occasionally, the gummy smile may be further enhanced by a thin upper lip, in which case lip fillers may also be helpful.

COST: £75

JAW SLIMMING

square, 'masculine' jaw shape is often the result of enlarged / strong masseter muscles (the muscles we use when we chew). Strategically injecting botox into the masseter muscle results in a slimmer, more feminine, more oval, V shaped face. Botox for a slimmer face, injected into the jaw, can also help with teeth grinding (bruxism).

LIP FLIP

A lip flip involves placing a small amount of botox to effectively 'flip' the top lip and make it appear more visible. Some people get confused with the difference between a gummy smile, and a lip flip - you can read our blog post about this by clicking here. A lip flip results in a subtle increase in volume of the top lip. The final result lasts about 3-4 months, but it is not as long lasting or as noticeable as lip fillers

ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTION FAQ'S

WHAT ARE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

Anti-wrinkle injections are BOTOX (B0Tulinum TOXin TYPE A) injections.

WHAT BRAND DO YOU USE?

We use AZZALURE and ALLUZIENCE in clinic. These are botulinum toxin type A formulations, manufactured by Galderma. The former lasts 3-4 months, whereas the latter lasts up to 6 months. We use Azzalure and Alluzience routinely in clinic, as we have found that these brands work better and last longer than others on the market, such as Botox (Allergan), Bocouture (Merz), and Letybo (Croma). The aforementioned botulinum toxin type a brands are the only formulations licensed by the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA): no other botox formulation should be used.

Bocouture (Merz) is free of 'non-accessory proteins'. We would always recommend this botox formulation if you have developed, or are developing antibodies. This has been shown to work in many cases, but not in all cases if you have a 'true' antibody formulation, as opposed to accessory protein antibody formulation.

WHAT ARE ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS USED FOR?

Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly used to treat fine, moderate, and severe lines and wrinkles on the face. BOTOX is also used for migraines and excessive sweating. The most common medical aesthetic uses are to treat:

 - Frown lines

- Forehead lines

- Crows Feet

With advanced uses treating:

- Gummy Smile

- Facial Tics

- Downturned mouth

- Creating a lip flip

- Orange-peel / dimpled chin

- Teeth Grinding

- Jaw slimming / V-shape face

- Nefertiti lift (neck cords and / or jowl area)

- Bunny lines

- Excessive Sweating

- Migraines

- Brow lift

- Lifting the nose tip

- Nose slimming

- Smoker's lines

- Under eye lines (jelly rolls)

Not everybody is suitable for any and all botox treatments, during a consultation and a clinical assessment we can advise of you of whether you are suitable for a particular treatment, or not. If you are not suitable, for whatever reason, we will inform you of the reasons why, and suggest alternative treatments if and when appropriate. We will also advise you if we don't think any treatment at all is right for you.

HOW DO ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS WORK?

Essentially, the toxin stops the nerves from talking to the muscle, resulting in lesser movement and therefore smoothing and preventing lines and wrinkles.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

BOTOX typically starts to work within 3 - 10 days, with full results at 14 - 21 days.

HOW LONG DO THE EFFECTS OF ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS LAST?

The smoothing effects of anti-wrinkle injections typically last between 3-4 months. ALLUZIENCE has been demonstrated to last up to 6 months. However, staying on top of your BOTOX injections helps to improve the skin and muscle tone, so over time many people find that they can go longer between treatments.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

Around 5-10 minutes.

IS THE PROCEDURE ITSELF PAINFUL?

Not at all. We do have reports of clients who come to us after having been elsewhere previously  and did find their previous injections painful. Without fail, they all say we provide a much more comfortable experience. This is because we use a very specialised needle, and an extremely experienced technique to make our botox treatments pretty much painless.

ARE THE RESULTS INSTANT?

No. Anti-wrinkle injections start to work within 3-10 days, with full effects seen at 14 - 21 days.

WHERE IS THE TREATMENT PERFORMED?

We provide BOTOX injections in Cardiff.

HOW MANY 'AREAS' DO I NEED? WHAT IS AN 'AREA'?

Anti-wrinkle injections are typically used to treat 'areas': these are the frown lines (11's), expression lines (forehead), and crows feet (eye wrinkles). Each of these are 'one' area', and the most common amongst our clients are these typical three areas at once. However, which areas you have treated are completely up to you. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be used to treat 'orange-peel' chin, 'bunny lines', and provide an eyebrow lift - amongst others (see list above).

The exception to being treated in isolation, however, is the forehead. As the forehead is an elevator (it pulls upwards), and the frown area is made up of depressors (pulls downwards), we cannot treat the forehead without also treating the labella (frown) region. This is because, if we did, you would look like you are permanently angry - and who wants that?

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD - OR SHOULDN'T DO - PRIOR TO THE TREATMENT?

We advise you not to drink alcohol or take Ibuprofen within the preceding 24hours of your appointment, as this can increase the risk of bruising.

Please arrive fresh-faced, without makeup, for your botox appointment.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY TREATMENT?

Not much! Immediately following injection, the treated areas may be slightly pink and / or 'bumpy' for about an hour, depending on how sensitive your skin is depends on how long these will last. Typically, this is never more than an hour. Then it's just a case of waiting for it all to kick in!

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD OR SHOULDN'T DO AFTER HAVING BOTOX?

Follow the aftercare advice we verbally advise you of before you leave our clinic, and also send to you digitally.Do not touch the injected areas following your treatment. Do not massage the treated areas. Do not wear make-up for six hours following treatment. Keep moving the muscles that have been injected for around one hour after treatment as this helps the BOTOX to settle into the muscles (in other words, just move your face as normal!).

Anti-wrinkle injections really are a treatment you can have in your lunch break and return to work straight away, there really is no down time at all!

WHAT ABOUT ANY RISKS?

Anti-wrinkle injections are very safe when injected by experienced medical professionals (we have undertaken thousands of anti-wrinkle injections and actually provide training to medical professionals - including doctors, nurses, midwives and pharmacists). The main risks associated with botox are associated with the injections themselves - that is, pinprick redness, pinprick bleeding (both of which resolve during the treatment), possible small transitory bumps immediately afterwards (which go within 5-10 minutes), and a small risk of pinprick bruising. There is a risk of dropping the eyebrow, raising the eyebrow, or dropping the eyelid - however, rest assured these are very rare when you are treated by a SKILLED MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL.

ARE THERE ANY PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS?

You cannot have anti-wrinkle injections if:

You are pregnant

You are under the age of 18

You are breastfeeding

You are taking certain antibiotics

You have any chronic muscle or nerve conditions, such as Eaton Lambert syndrome, myasthenia gravis, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

You have any sensitivity to any of the product excipients - human albumin or lactose monohydrate

Not everyone is suitable for every botox treatment, and if, following clinical assessment, we do not believe that partcular treatment / service is right for you, we will advise you as to the reasons and suggest possible alternatives if appropriate.

AM I SUITABLE FOR BOTOX FOR MIGRAINES?

You can only have botox for migraines if we have a written letter from your GP, confirming that you have a diagnosis of migraines.

IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?

Anti-wrinkle injections are prescription only, which means you if this is your first visit to us you MUST have a consultation and complete your medical form at least 48 hours before your appointment.  This can be done either remotely (over the telephone due to current COVID guidance and regulations) or face to face in clinic. This is to ensure product safety and suitability for YOU. Once you have been seen and treated with anti-wrinkle injections at least once, you are able to simply book and be treated without the need for any further, separate consultation. Please see our T&C's for full information.
