GUMMY SMILE FAQ'S

WHAT IS A GUMMY SMILE?

A GUMMY SMILE is when too much gum is shown on smiling.

WHAT IS A LIP FLIP VERSUS GUMMY SMILE?

A lip flip versus a gummy smile is dependent upon the patient, expectations, end result, and placement of the botox os different. You can read more about the difference between a gummy smile treatment and a lip flip treatment on our blog post by clicking here.

WHAT CAUSES A GUMMY SMILE?

A gummy smile can be caused when the muscle responsible for raising the upper lip is 'too strong' - otherwise referred to as a  hyperactive muscle.

WHO IS SUITABLE FOR A NEFERITI LIFT?

If you feel you show a lot of gum when you smile, you may be a candidate for gummy smile treatment.

HOW DOES THE GUMMY SMILE TREATMENT WORK?

Neuromodulators (aka, 'botox') are injected into the hyperactive muscle responsible for lifting the upper lip, therefore relaxing it so that when you smile, you do not show too much gum.

Occasionally, a gummy smile can appear worse if you also have a thin upper lip. If this is the case, this can be addressed by LIP FILLERS  in conjunction with a gummy smile treatment.

HOW SOON WILL I SEE RESULTS?

A GUMMY SMILE treatment typically starts to work within 3 - 10 days, with full results at 21 DAYS.

HOW LONG DO THE EFFECTS OF A GUMMY SMILE LAST?

The treatment lasts between 3-4 months.

HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE?

Around 5 minutes.

IS THE PROCEDURE ITSELF PAINFUL?

A GUMMY SMILE treatment involves tiny needles, and not particularly painful.

ARE THE RESULTS INSTANT?

No. Results can be seen  within 3-10 days, with full effects seen at 14-21 days.

IS THERE ANYTHING I SHOULD - OR SHOULDN'T DO - PRIOR TO THE TREATMENT?

- Do not drink alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment

- Do not take Ibuprofen for 24 hours before your appointment

This reduces the risk of bruising.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER MY TREATMENT?

The injected area may be slightly pink and / or bumpy for around an hour.

WHAT ABOUT ANY RISKS?

A GUMMY SMILE treatment is very safe when injected by experienced medical professionals. The main risks are associated with the injections - pinprick redness and pinprick bleeding (both of which resolve very quickly),and  possible small transitory bumps . There is a small risk of pinprick bruising.  Your medical practitioner will further discuss all risks and side effects.

ARE THERE ANY PEOPLE THAT ARE NOT SUITABLE FOR A GUMMY SMILE TREATMENT?

You cannot have GUMMY SMILE treatment if:

You are pregnant

You are breastfeeding
