WHEN IS THIS REQUIRED? You must have this vaccine at least 2 weeks before your intended date of travel. WHAT IS TYPHOID? Typhoid fever is an infection caused by the bacterium Salmonella Typhi. It is transmitted through ingesting contaminated food or water and is more common in areas with poor sanitation. Symptoms of typhoid includeS high fever, weakness, stomach pains, headache, loss of appetite, and in some cases, a rash. Without prompt treatment, typhoid fever can lead to serious complications and can be fatal. Typhoid vaccine is highly recommended for travelers to regions where typhoid fever is prevalent, particularly in parts of South Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The vaccine offers important protection for individuals traveling to areas with increased risk of exposure to Salmonella Typhi, especially if you will be in places with questionable water quality or sanitation, or if you plan to eat local street food. Getting vaccinated against typhoid is a key preventive measure for travelers, helping to ensure their health and safety while abroad in regions where the risk of typhoid fever is higher. WHICH TYPHOID VACCINE DO YOU USE? We routinely offer TYPHIM Vi. This is recommended for the active prevention of typhoid fever, which is caused by the bacterium Salmonella enterica serovar typhi (S. typhi), in adults and children aged 2 years and above. CONTRAINDICATIONS: You cannot have TYPHIM Vi if: - You have ever had an allergic or hypersensitive reaction to: Water for Injections Sodium Chloride Disodium phosphate dihydrate Sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate - You are pregnant - You currently have a fever, or are unwell
